BRIEF PRESENTATION OF THE HELLENIC UNION OF MEDIATORS
The GREEK UNION OF MEDIATORS is a non profit Association .It was formed in 2010 by the 25 first Greek accredited Mediators.
At present, it embraces and it is open to all Mediators.It has more than 120 members .It organizes educative Seminars for Mediators already trained in Mediation,as well as for persons being not Mediators but interested to Mediation. It has organized Seminars with foreign and Greek Trainers ( such as Seminars for Advanced Mediation,Mediation Advocacy ,Negotiations in Mediation) ,which took place in Athens and also many workshops of mocke mediations and role plays.
Considering as an effective means for the dissemination of Mediation the briefing of the population, the UNION has organized with big success,from 2011 to date, many conferences having as subject «MEDIATION – THE NEW INSTITUTION OF ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION»,at the Athens Bar Association, at theCultural Center of Kifissa,at the European Public Law Organization( EPLO) , as well as in various Municipalities of the country,such as the Municipality of Penteli -Melission,of Galatsi, of Glyfada ,of Papagou-Cholargou,the Municipality of Athens ,ofAghia Paraskevi, of Amaroussion , of Filoteï -Psychiko ,of Kifissia,of Nafplion,of Atalanti and of Lamia.
The UNION has participated in the Greek- Polish Congress regarding Mediation ,which has taken place in the city of Argos and in Athens in October 2017.
It has organized an event on Mediation and Negotiations at the Bar Association of Athens jointly with the Union of Negotiators , in March 2018.
In March 2019, it has organized an event about « Peer Mediation in Schools».
The UNION has participated and has been represented actively in Conferences about Mediation organized by the Ministry of Justice in the city of Volos , in the city of Chania, in the city of Xanthi , as well as in Seminars for the same subject matter organized by other Institutions, in Greece and abroad and more and more particularly in Seminars of the WORD FORUM OF MEDITATION CENTERS of the INTERNATIONAL UNION OF LAWYERS ( UIA), among which the one organized jointly with the UNION in Athens, in March 2011,which was regarded as the most successful one up to then.
As of 2017,the UNION is a member of the Permanent Cooperation Commission of the ORGANIZATION FOR THE PROMOTION OF ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION METHODS-OPEMED , an Institutional Alliance created in December 2015 by the main Social Partners, which since then promotes Mediation in the best possible ways.
As of the beginning of the year 2019, the UNION has established a Mediation Portal in Kifissia ,in a room at the Town Hall of Kifissia offered by the Municipality of Kifissia and the Cultural and Sports Public Entity «DIMITRIOS VIKELAS » ,where twice per month at least two accredited Mediators granted pro bono ,during two hours, information about Mediation to any interested person .
The UNION has organized several two-days Educative Seminars in Athens ,addressed to already accredited mediators ,among which seminars under the title
« ADVANCED MEDIATION», «MEDIATION ADVOCACY» , «NEGOTIATIONS IN MEDIATION» , in collaboration with the French Company of Mediators FURTHER Training under the name «RESOLVE», two two-days Educative Seminars under the title «Negotiations in Mediation» with Mr Demosthenes Papakonstantinou as Trainer ,as well as a two-days Educative Seminar under the title «Psychology in Mediation», with specialized psychologists/trainers in School Mediation .
As of 2020, soon after the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, the UNION started organising Lectures about Mediation, through the ZOOM .Todate 48 internationally famous mediators but also academics ,both Greeks and foreigners, from European countries but also from the USA,have presented
Lectures about Mediation ,which have thrilled the audience each time .
The majority of such Lectures have been filmed and the relevant videos have been posted and still are on the website of the UNION,with the consent of the speakers.
Further, the UNION has organized and continues to organize Simulations of Mediation, in Greek and in English ,through the ZOOM Platform.
Both Greek and foreign Mediators can be Members of the UNION.
In 2023, the UNION has signed a Collaboration Agreement with the MEDIATION ACADEMY OF UKRAINE by virtue of which the contracting parties undertook to collaborate in order to promote Mediation by means of organisation of Seminars ,one day Events, Mediation Simulations etc .Soon after,the UNION organized on line Mediation Simulations in English,where the «roles» were played by Ukrainian and Greek mediators ,but also mediators from other countries and ,mainly,from Italy .
The above Simulations were watched by many mediators from Greece ,Ukraine and many other countries,which has been feasible mainly due to the care of the MEDIATION ACADEMY OF UKRAINE to hire an interpreter to make interpretation from Ukrainian language to English and vice-versa ,which allowed the participation and the watching of the Simulations not only by the forty Ukrainian colleagues who were on line present ,but also by colleagues from other Countries.
Since several years ,the UNION is one of the supporters of the Congresses organized in Greece by the international company CAPITAL LINK regarding -mainly – the Environment,the Sustainability,the Corporate Governance .
Also the Negotiations Contests organized by ELSA GREECE ,the,Greek Section of the EUROPEAN LAW STUDENTS ASSOCIATION are done under the auspices-among others-of the UNION .
